classic Michigan dry fly · mid-1970s
Michigan Stone II
Unverified origin Only the archive card; originator unknown.
History
A general-purpose stonefly dry whose designer is not known. It had a short run of popularity from the mid-1970s into the early 1980s, which is the best clue to when it was first tied.
Despite the name, it is a different fly from Paul Young's 1930s Michigan Stone: it has an elk tail, a clipped ginger hackle rib and a bucktail wing.
