Schultzy's S4 Sculpin
Also called Schultzy's S3 Sculpin, Schultz Sculpin
Likely origin Frankenfly, Oak Hall Outfitters and the Orvis catalog credit Schultz; none gives a date or says how the S3 and S4 differ.
History
Mike Schultz developed this heavy, two-hook sculpin on the Huron River near Ypsilanti for its smallmouth bass. It has become an early-season and high-water standby on southern Michigan rivers. Frankenfly published it as a Mike Schultz original, and Orvis has sold it under the Schultzy's name in S3 and S4 versions; Schultz Outfitters now lists the S4.
The eyes are tied under the shank so the fly rides hook-up and dives nose-first, and the rabbit head and grizzly wings give it a wide, mottled sculpin profile. Trout anglers in the Great Lakes region also use it for big browns.
