modern Michigan dry fly · early 1990s
White-Not
Unverified origin Only the archive card (contributed by Josh Greenberg); it does not say who first tied the fly.
History
The White-Not grew out of Rusty Gates' Rusty's Spinner at Gates Au Sable Lodge in the early 1990s. It keeps the dark reddish-brown deer-hair body, whose dye recipe the lodge keeps to itself, and adds a white post and a dun parachute hackle.
It was first aimed at the Isonychia hatch and is also used for Ephemerella and Ephemera hatches. Josh Greenberg, who sent in the card, fishes it from June through September.
