classic Michigan dry fly · early 1960s

Hot Mustard

Unverified origin Only Deschaine's 2011 column on Jo's flies describes it; her biography column does not mention it.

History

Josephine Sedlecky-Borsum tied the Hot Mustard in the early 1960s as her version of a little yellow stonefly. It is a simple fly: an extended gold yarn body with grizzly hackle wound through it.

Local anglers used it from midsummer into late fall and also during the hatch of big golden stoneflies.
