Michigan Spinner

Unverified origin No public source describing this fly was found.

History

The Michigan Spinner is an old Hex spinner pattern from before 1950, by an unknown tyer. The Hex (Hexagenia limbata) is the largest mayfly on Michigan trout streams, and it hatches mostly after dark from late June into early July.

Unlike most later spinners it has upright white bucktail wings rather than spent ones, which would have made it easier to see at night. It was tied across a wide range of hook sizes.
